HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A 12-year-old boy was taken into custody on Friday morning after leading Harris County deputies on a high-speed chase that ended with the child flipping a stolen vehicle.
According to deputies, the pursuit began around 8 a.m. in the 12300 block of Antoine Drive when they spotted a Kia Rio that had been reported stolen. Deputies attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the driver, later identified as the 12-year-old, refused to stop, initiating the chase.
The pursuit quickly escalated as the juvenile drove at high speeds through residential streets. The chase ended when the vehicle flipped, bringing the dangerous situation to a halt. Fortunately, deputies reported that the child was not seriously injured in the crash.
After being taken into custody, the young driver was released to his mother. Authorities have not disclosed the reasons behind the child’s decision to steal the car or lead law enforcement on the chase.
The incident raises questions about youth crime and the growing trend of minors being involved in stolen vehicle incidents. Deputies are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the case. No other individuals were reported injured during the pursuit.
This is an ongoing investigation, and authorities are expected to release more details as they become available.
