Police officials said the 21-year-old mom, later identified as Macie, reportedly knew her 2-year-old daughter consumed multiple prescription medications and was displayed symptoms of overdosage. Instead driving the child to hospital for help, she drove her daughter to a rural area and prevented her from receiving emergency medical aid for multiple hours. According to the statement, the young mom was taken into custody and later charged with murder in the first degree and kidnapping. The 21-year-old woman is being held without bond, court records say.
Prosecutors said the mother killed her child through a drug overdose and refused to get the dying child any emergency medical care. First responders found the unresponsive 2-year-old girl, who was not identified due to her age, in a vehicle. The child was rushed to the local hospital, but she died shortly after, police officials said. Investigators considered her death suspicious, court records say. Investigators later revealed that the the 2-year-old was deliberately provided as well as given access to prescription medication with criminal intent by her mother. During an autopsy on the girl, the pathologist found seven to 15 different prescription drugs in her system, which led to her death.
Despite knowing her child had consumed multiple medications and was displaying symptoms of overdosage, the mother reportedly drove the child to a rural area and prevented her from receiving emergency medical aid for multiple hours, police officials said. Police obtained a no-bail arrest warrant against the mother, charging her with both the murder and kidnapping. Initially, the mother told investigators that her child opened the medication bottles herself. During a follow up interview, the woman said she stole some prescription medication from her mother and left the bottles open before her daughter died.
Macey said she was depressed because her daughter’s father was in jail and he did not speak with his daughter. The day the child died, she was sick and crying, so her mother said she gave the child a piece of a Xanax pill. Macey said she also saw the child carrying a handful of pills and running around her house with them. Macey told investogators she took the pills away from her daughter and threw them away, along with the other pills she stole from her mother. At some point that day the child took a nap and when she awoke Macey told a housekeeper she was taking the girl to the hospital. Instead, she drove the child to rural area, hoping the Xanax would wear off.
