Police officials said the 56-year-old woman, Jaqueline, was convicted of second-degree murger after she shot 59-year-old Melvin to death. The woman reportedly shot the man after he tried to break off a relationship with her. After Jaqueline shot and killed her boyfriend, ‘she moved his body from her dogs’ view so they would not be upset.’ Jaqueline was convicted following a two-day jury trial and will be sentenced in January 2024. The 56-year-old woman faces up to 43 years in prison.
On June 4, 2022, Jaqueline called 911 and told the dispatcher that Melvin had attacked her as she fled from him up her long driveway to her home and then went into the barn where they scuffled again. The woman also said that Melvin was mad at her, because he thought she was having se* with another neighbor. But, prosecutors said that 3 hours before the fatal shooting, Jaqueline received a text from Melvin telling her he wanted to break up.
Once Jaqueline and Melvin were inside the barn, she claimed she raised the gun up and told him to not come any further. Jaqueline reportedly told the dispatcher: “He was dead in the barn but I didn’t want my dogs who were all in the barn to have to be worried about all of that so I had to pull him out of the barn, yes ma’am. I didn’t want my dogs upset about him so that’s why I pulled him out.” Shortly after the murder, Jaqueline drove her car and brought her ex-boyfriend to the crime scene to help her move the body.
The woman also asked her neighbor to go into Melvin’s home, get his phone and delete texts and emails off it. Jaqueline’s mom told prosecutors that Melvin adored her daughter and ‘followed her around like a puppy.’ Jaqueline initially told investigators that Melvin choked and pushed her down to the ground multiple times. But, she showed no signs of injury on her body when arrested.
