Bellmead Woman Charged with Aggravated Assault After Striking Security Guard with Vehicle at Waco Hospital

Waco, TX — A Bellmead woman has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault against a public servant after allegedly striking a security guard with her vehicle at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital on December 6.

According to an arrest warrant, 54-year-old Scarlett Spicer was asked to leave the hospital after recording video footage in the front lobby, which prompted an interaction with hospital security. The situation quickly escalated when Spicer reportedly backed her vehicle into the security guard, causing injury.

The incident unfolded just before 3 p.m. when Spicer was approached by a security guard after she had been asked to leave the premises. As the guard stood next to Spicer’s vehicle, she allegedly warned the security officer to move out of the way, threatening to “hit” the victim with her car.

Spicer then reversed her vehicle, striking the guard’s right hand, causing pain. According to the affidavit, she stopped momentarily before backing up again, this time hitting the guard on the left thigh, causing further pain and injury.

The security guard was able to provide the vehicle’s license plate number, and a witness in the hospital parking lot also provided a description of Spicer. Officers were able to locate her at her home in Bellmead, where she was taken into custody by Bellmead police.

During questioning, Spicer acknowledged being at the hospital to take pictures of the reception area but claimed that she left peacefully after being asked by security. She told investigators that she accidentally struck the guard’s hand while backing out of the parking spot, but claimed the guard “jumped in front of her vehicle,” causing her to hit the security officer again with the car’s side mirror.

However, the arrest affidavit states that Spicer’s account of the events contradicted the testimony of two other witnesses, including the hospital receptionist who saw the altercation. The discrepancy in her version of events has raised doubts about the validity of her claims.

In addition to the aggravated assault charge, Spicer is also facing a charge of possession of a controlled substance, though the specific substance was not mentioned in the warrant.

Spicer remains in custody at the McLennan County Jail, with her bond set at $105,000. If convicted of aggravated assault against a public servant, Spicer could face significant prison time. The case is ongoing as investigators continue to review evidence and witness statements.

This incident has raised concerns about the safety of hospital employees, particularly security personnel, as they deal with increasingly tense situations in public spaces.
