Teen Charged with Murder After Fatal Shooting in Waco

Waco, TX — An 18-year-old man has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting and killing a man who was changing a tire in his driveway on Sunday. Brandon Michael Davis was arrested following the shooting of 36-year-old Dustin Nobles on January 5, 2025, in the 1300 block of Old Moody Road.

According to arrest records, authorities received a call reporting a shooting at the residence. When officers arrived, they found Nobles with a gunshot wound to the upper chest. Despite attempts by emergency medical responders to save him, Nobles was pronounced dead at 1:04 p.m. at the scene.

Davis was detained by law enforcement shortly after the incident, and two witnesses provided statements that shed light on the events leading up to the shooting. One of the witnesses told authorities that he had arrived at the house to wake Davis and discovered Nobles outside, working on his vehicle. The witness said Davis became upset upon learning that Nobles was at the house and had removed a tire from his car. Davis allegedly instructed his grandfather to ask Nobles to leave, and tensions quickly escalated.

According to the witness, after an argument between Davis and his grandfather, Davis went outside, reportedly with a rifle in hand, to tell Nobles to leave. Davis allegedly gave Nobles a 10-minute deadline to leave the property, but the situation soon turned violent.

Another witness stated that Davis warned Nobles several times to leave the driveway, but the two men began arguing, and Davis reportedly pointed the rifle at Nobles. The witness described Nobles as approaching Davis aggressively before the gun discharged, striking Nobles in the chest.

Officers who responded to the scene recovered a .22 caliber rifle from Davis’s bedroom, as well as a shell casing found near Nobles’ vehicle in the driveway. Police also confirmed that Nobles had been working on his car, with tools and a jack found near the vehicle.

In an interview with authorities, Davis admitted to shooting Nobles but claimed that Nobles had approached him aggressively. Davis told police that Nobles was not armed and had not made any threats before the shooting. After firing the shot, Davis allegedly told Nobles, “make sure you die slow,” before returning inside the house to wait for law enforcement to arrive.

Davis is currently being held in the McLennan County Jail on an unknown bond, with murder charges pending. The case is under ongoing investigation.
