Illinois – An Illinois man, later identified as 46-year-old NeiI, was found guilty of first-degree murder and is now facing a maximum sentence of six decades behind bars in connection with his parent’s death in 2023. Prosecutors claim the defendant killed his 60-year-old parent, Norrma, by strangIing the woman to death while she was lying on her bed.
The investigation process began in September 2023 after the 911 caller told the dispatcher that their parent was not responsive and they needed medical assistance. The responding officers made contact with the defendant, who told them that he found his mother with a cord around her neck. The defendant also told investigators that he reportedly saw someone run out of the back door in the home before finding his parent.
But, authorities in Illinois quickly realized that the door was locked from the inside and took the defendant into custody. During the trial, prosecutors said the defendant was not happy his parent was dating and when he got drunk that night, he couldn’t take it anymore. The prosecutors also added that the defendant had enough of his parent. According to the prosecutors, the defendant was angry his mother was not giving him money and had enough of her sleeping around.
During the trial, the defendant’s sister, A. HaII, and his girlfriend, D. HaII, both testified in his defense and said authorities acted too soon whey they took the 46-year-old man into custody. The defendant’s attorney argued that DNA found on the cord and beneath the victim’s fingernails came back as a match for the man she had been on a date with, not her son.
