Governor Abbott champions school choice, calls for improved education at San Antonio event

Texas – Governor Greg Abbott highlighted the importance of school choice for all Texas families during a Parent Empowerment Night at San Antonio Christian School (SACS) on the evening of February 17, 2025. Abbott emphasized his mission to improve education by advocating for school choice that benefits every parent, not just the wealthy.

“We want school choice where every parent can choose, not just wealthy parents, but for every parent in the state of Texas,” said Abbott. “We will end this session ensuring public schools are better than they have ever been, increase teacher pay to an all-time high, and get back to the basics of learning to achieve academic excellence. Texas is on the pathway to deliver the best education in America. A pathway where we empower parents through school choice.”

Governor Abbott was joined by several lawmakers and school choice supporters, including Speaker Dustin Burrows and Representatives Greg Bonnen, Brad Buckley, Mark Dorazio, Marc LaHood, and John Lujan, as well as Texas Public Policy Foundation Campaign Director Mandy Drogin. The event, which drew over 600 Texas parents and supporters, was focused on expanding school choice and strengthening the state’s education system.

Abbott thanked Speaker Burrows for his efforts in advancing school choice and praised Representative Buckley for his commitment to introduce related legislation. He also noted that Texans from all regions of the state overwhelmingly support expanding school choice for families. The Governor outlined his plan to make Texas the top state for education by empowering parents, funding exceptional teachers, and providing students with outstanding academic opportunities.
