Governor Greg Abbott discusses Texas’ success at fireside chat with Texas Law Federalist Society

Texas – Governor Greg Abbott participated in a fireside chat with the Texas Law Federalist Society at The University of Texas (UT) in Austin, where he highlighted the state’s exceptional policies that have contributed to its booming economy, world-class business climate, and enhanced safety.

During the event, Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of using the law effectively, referring to it as both a “sword and shield” for advancing policies. He explained how swift action led to the creation of a new court of appeals that allows for the quick resolution of business matters, which has attracted business enterprises to Texas.

“We must use the law as both a sword and shield,” Governor Abbott said. “There is a need for speed to have policies enacted. That led to the creation of a new court of appeals that has expert judges swiftly deciding on matters that ensure government operates effectively, efficiently, and as swiftly as possible in business matters.”

The Governor went on to praise the Fifteenth Court of Appeals, noting that it has been crucial in resolving complex commercial disputes in the state, fostering an environment conducive to business growth.

Moderated by UT Austin interim President Jim Davis and Texas Law Federalist Society President Jordan Lamb, the discussion also delved into other key issues facing Texas. Governor Abbott highlighted the success of Texas’ historic border security mission, Operation Lone Star, which was launched in response to what he called the Biden Administration’s “reckless open border policies.”

He praised the state’s efforts to combat illegal immigration, noting that Texas deployed thousands of National Guard soldiers, installed buoys and razor wire, and built its own border wall, which resulted in an 85% decrease in illegal crossings.

The fireside chat underscored Governor Abbott’s commitment to maintaining Texas as a thriving, safe, and business-friendly state while addressing pressing national issues such as border security and economic growth.
