Texas – A Texas woman was kiIIed by the man she was previously involved in a romantic reIationship after, according to authorities, she refused to drop domestic vioIence charges along with remove footage of him threatening her with a firearm.
Texas authorities took 26-year-old D. CarriII into custody in connection with the February 2025 shooting death of his former girIfriend, 24-year-old G. Barera. The defendant now faces a murder charge and is currently held in county jail on a $300,000 bond.
According to an arrest affidavit, the defendant had previously been arrested in November 2024 for allegedly assaulting the victim, leading to a no-contact order.
Despite this, he reportedly sent threatening messages to the victim, demanding she drop the charges and remove a video showing him threatening her with a firearm. One of the messages stated that if the video was not taken down, he would show up at her workplace.
On the night of the incident, the victim was found with multiple gunshot wounds inside her crashed vehicle. She was pronounced dead at University Hospital.
Investigators obtained surveillance footage showing a black vehicle, registered to a family member of the defendant, parked near the victim’s workplace. The truck was seen following her vehicle as she left work.
A search of the truck revealed a shell casing matching those found at the crime scene. Additionally, the defendant’s phone was connected to the truck’s system on the night of the shooting, and phone records placed him at the location of the incident.
The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to gather evidence.
