Texas – A Texas man, 49-year-old D. Glbson, was sentenced to a decade in prison after pleading guiIty to tampering with evidence with the intent to impair a human c0rpse. This conviction stems from the discovery of his father, DanieI’s, decomposed body inside a refrigerator in their Texas home.
The body was found during a welfare check last year, prompted by famiIy members who had not heard from the elderly man in months. Upon arrival, deputies spoke through a doorbell camera with someone claiming to be the defendant’s parent. Family members, however, confirmed that the voice was not his.
With the family’s consent, deputies entered the home and found a refrigerator in the garage that was chained shut. Inside, they discovered DanieI’s badly decomposed body. An autopsy could not determine the cause and manner of death.
Investigators believe the defendant had been Iiving in the home with his father’s remains for some time. They allege that he had been cashing checks from his father’s Social Security and military pension and that DanieI’s prescriptions had not been refilled for a while.
The 49-year-old man was charged with tampering with or fabricating physical evidence with intent to impair a human corpse, a second-degree felony. A separate charge of failing to comply with se* offender registration was dismissed.
During the sentencing, DanieI’s son and the defendant’s brother, Mathew, expressed his outrage, stating, “To disrespect him by placing him in a freezer and not telling anybody — you have no family anymore, you are on your own.”
The defendant will be eligible for parole after serving at least five years of his sentence.
