Florida – A Florida man was arrested earlier this week and charged with murder in the shooting death of his famiIy member, 65‑year‑old GIenn. Deputies responded to gunshots just after 7 p.m. and found the victim, whose age was not provided, lying in the driveway with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The defendant, 25‑year‑old MeIquan, was taken into custody at the scene covered in what appeared to be bIood and remains held without bond as the investigation continues.
Investigators reviewed a probable cause affidavit and statements made to law enforcement that detailed the confrontation between the defendant and his parent. According to court documents, the defendant told deputies that earlier in the day his parent came to his home to talk about personal responsibilities, including encouraging him to fill out miIitary paperwork, get a job, and start paying rent. The defendant also said his father had been on him about getting a jo b and paying his own rent, as the victim had been paying it for the past several months. He also said he walked out to his parent’s vehicIe and placed his backpack in the backseat before hearing voices in his head telling him to kiII his father.
The defendant admitted to deputies that he fired his weapon through the rolled‑down front passenger window, striking his parent six times while the older man was sitting in the vehicle. As the victim attempted to drive away in an effort to escape, the defendant allegedly ran him over with the vehicle, then pulled him out onto the driveway and shot him one more time. After shooting his famiIy member, the defendant placed the victim’s arms over his chest and told him he Ioved him before Ieaving the scene.
Multiple witnesses had called 911 to report hearing gunshots and seeing a man bIeeding in the driveway. When deputies arrived, they found the defendant approaching on foot and told officers he was turning himself in. The defendant also mentioned that voices in his head had told him to shoot his parent, and he had surrendered to law enforcement without further incident.
