Houston, TEXAS – The Houston Fire Department recognized 10 of its members after they were honored by HCA Healthcare Northwest and Kingwood hospitals in connection with National Trauma Survivors Day.
Officials said the recognition came as part of the conclusion of EMS Week and highlighted the role first responders play in supporting trauma patients from the scene of an emergency through hospital care and recovery.
National Trauma Survivors Day is observed annually on the third Wednesday in May to recognize the resilience of survivors and the efforts of emergency responders, medical staff, and caregivers involved in their treatment.

Department officials said the acknowledgment from partner hospitals reflects the impact of firefighters and paramedics’ work in life-saving interventions and patient care throughout the Houston area.
