Waco, TX – The City of Waco reported continued progress on the Waco Downtown Redevelopment Project as crews carried out demolition work at the former school located at 500 N. University Parks Drive. Officials said the demolition phase is expected to be completed in July.
The redevelopment site is set to transition into the Barron’s Branch District, a planned public space along the Brazos River featuring a restored creek, walking trails, outdoor plazas, splash pads, water features, and a pedestrian bridge.
City officials described the project as part of a broader effort to create a more active and accessible riverfront destination.
Construction on the Barron’s Branch District is expected to begin later in the year following the completion of demolition work.
Looking further ahead, most of the former school property is planned to become part of the future Ballpark District, which represents a later phase of the overall Waco Downtown Redevelopment Project.
