Waco, TX – The Waco Police Department arrested 43-year-old Michael Calhoun following a fatal shooting Sunday night that left a 49-year-old man dead.
Officers were dispatched to the 2800 block of Summer Avenue at about 9:47 p.m. on Aug. 9 after receiving reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found the victim and immediately began providing medical assistance. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Calhoun was not at the location when officers arrived, but police said he was quickly located in the 2600 block of Alexander Avenue and arrested.
Police said the two individuals knew each other. The victim’s identity had not yet been released as of Monday, as authorities worked to notify family members.
The department said the investigation remains ongoing. An autopsy and additional investigative work are expected to help establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The case marks the third homicide investigation in Waco in 2026, according to police.
The Waco Police Department said additional information, including the victim’s identity, would be released as it becomes available.
