Waco, TX – An AMBER Alert has been issued for 15-month-old Matheo Vasquez, who was reported missing from his home in the 15000 block of Green Stone in northwest Harris County, Texas. Authorities believe the child is with his uncle, 25-year-old Jason Irwin Vasquez, who is now facing kidnapping charges.
Matheo was last seen in the care of his father, Joe, and was believed to have been taken without permission by Jason. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the child’s family has expressed concern, with authorities yet to clarify the motive behind the uncle’s actions. At this time, there is no confirmation as to whether Matheo is in immediate danger, though officials are urging the public to assist in locating both the child and Jason.
Jason Vasquez is currently wanted on charges of kidnapping and was last seen driving a 2016 dark gray GMC Sierra 4-door pickup truck with Texas license plate JZY5720.
Neighbors of the Vasquez family, who reside in a quiet residential area, have expressed surprise over the situation. One neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, described both Joe and Jason as “good guys” who were frequently seen playing with Matheo outside. The neighbor emphasized that there was no outward indication of any conflict or cause for concern prior to the incident.
“We were always waving hi, they seemed like good people,” the neighbor said. “I would advise Jason, as a friend, to just bring the baby home safe and try to resolve this situation.”
Family members have also appealed for Matheo’s safe return. While they have not provided specific details on any family issues that may have led to the incident, they are hopeful that the situation can be resolved peacefully.
Matheo is described as a Hispanic boy weighing 25 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black sweater and black pants.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the whereabouts of Matheo or Jason Vasquez to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office at 713-221-6000 or dial 911 immediately.
As the search for the missing child continues, both law enforcement and the community remain hopeful for a safe resolution.
