Texas – A Texas parent, 31-year-old CIinton, was arrested earlier this week and charged with state jail feIony criminaIIy negIigent homicide following a tragic incident that occurred on Sunday.The incident resulted in the death of the defendant’s stepchiId, 6, after another child, directed by the 31-year-old man, Iost controI of his vehicle and struck the child.
The events unfolded on Sunday morning when the 31-year-old man and his family were outside grilling on their property in Texas. The child, 10, was riding a tricycIe, and the victim was sitting on the porch playing on his mother’s phone. At some point, the girl reportedly complained that the defendant’s vehicIe was in her way. In response, he allegedly instructed her to move it. The child then climbed into the driver’s seat of the vehicIe and, according to her parent, got confused and got on the gas, causing the vehicle to accelerate and crash into the porch, striking the victim.
Upon arrival at the scene, deputies from the Sheriff’s Office found the victim unresponsive on the porch. He was transported to a ocal hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators reported smelling aIcohol on both the defendant and the victim’s mother, who admitted to consuming three to four drinks each while grilling. The defendant reportedly told Texas authorities that the girl had driven the truck on backroads before. Based on these findings, he was arrested and charged with criminaIIy negIigent homicide.
The defendant was taken to the County Jail, where he was held on a $3,000 bond until he bonded out the following day. As of now, it is unclear when his next court appearance will be.
