Nevada – A Nevada man was ordered to spend at least the next twenty two years behind bars for the murder of his girIfriend’s child four years ago. The sentencing follows the defendant’s guilty plea to charges of first-degree murder and assault on a protected person with a deadly weapon.
In April 2024, the defendant (SEE PHOTO) pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon against a protected person and was sentenced last week. The plea agreement stipulated a sentence of twenty years to life for the murder charge, with an additional twenty eight to seventy two months for the assault charge, stemming from an incident during his arrest. Judge BIuth presided over the case and imposed the sentence, emphasizing the severity of the defendant’s, 31-year-old TereII, actions.
In 2021, 2-year-old Ameri was reported missing from the family’s apartment complex in Nevada, where he lived with his mother, TayIer, and her 31-year-old partner, TereII. The defendant initially claimed that the child had been abducted by a family member, prompting a week-long community search. However, during interrogation, he confessed to killing the child after the child ur-nated on himself. He admitted to striking the victim multiple times, leading to the child’s death.
Following the defendant’s confession, he attempted to grab a detective’s firearm during an interview at the police department headquarters, leading to additional charges of assaulting a police officer with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest. A grand jury indicted the defendant on charges including murder and assaulting a police officer with a deadly weapon.
The defendant reportedly admitted that he beat the child to death after the boy ur-nated on himself. The child’s accident reportedly angered him, and in response, he struck the child three or four times with a closed fist until the boy’s face turned blue and purple, and he stopped breathing.
Amari’s mother, TayIer, expressed profound grief and betrayal following her son’s death. She stated that she never suspected her partner’s involvement and felt he had betrayed her trust. The victim grandparent, Carie, criticized Child Protective Services for closing a prior case involving her grandchild, suggesting that earlier intervention might have prevented the tragedy.
The case has had a lasting impact on the Nevada community, highlighting issues related to child protection and domestic violence. The tragic death of the child serves as a sobering reminder of the potential consequences of unchecked domestic conflicts and the importance of vigilant child welfare practices.
The defendant will serve his sentence at the Nevada Department of Corrections, with the possibility of parole after twenty years, as stipulated in the plea agreement.
