Houston, TX – Authorities are piecing together the details of a shocking incident in north Harris County, where an attempted robbery turned into a violent confrontation between a man and a group of young children. The incident occurred just after midnight at an apartment complex located on N Houston Rosslyn near Highway 249.
According to Major Suarez with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the scene after reports of a person suffering multiple gunshot wounds. When officers arrived, they discovered that the victim was actually a young child.
The child’s age was not immediately disclosed, but emergency responders rushed him to a nearby trauma center, where he underwent surgery.
As the investigation unfolded, officers found two other children at the scene, both of whom had also sustained gunshot wounds.
The victim, later identified as an adult man, arrived at the scene on his own and turned himself in to law enforcement. The man is currently cooperating with the investigation. Initial findings suggest that the man was the target of a robbery.
Four children, believed to be between the ages of 12 and 14, allegedly approached the man and attempted to rob him at gunpoint. In an unexpected turn of events, the man pulled out his own firearm and shot the would-be robbers.
Three of the children were injured and taken to a nearby hospital, with two reported to be in stable condition. The fourth child, who was not injured, was detained by authorities. While early reports indicated that the children may have used BB guns in the robbery attempt, Major Suarez stated that investigators could not confirm this information.
Deputies did, however, recover several firearms at the scene, which are being processed for further examination. The case is now under review by a grand jury, which will determine whether the man will face any charges. The incident has raised concerns about the involvement of children in violent crimes and the dangers posed by such situations.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the events that led to the shooting and are expected to release further details as the case develops.
