Indiana – An Indiana woman and her partner were taken into custody and later charged with multiple counts of child neglect following allegations of severe abuse toward their child. The charges stem from incidents that reportedly occurred over an extended period, involving physical restraint, nutritional deprivation, and coercion of sibling participation in abusive acts.
The investigation commenced when the 38-year-old mom, MeIody, and her 36-year-old husband, Addam, brought their child, 10, to a hospital for a medical examination. Medical personnel noted that the child appeared extremely skinny and observed scars on his wrists, indicative of zip-tie restraints. Further inquiries revealed that the boy’s diet consisted solely of canned vegetables, contrasting sharply with the regular meals, including fast food and snacks, provided to his seven siblings.
According to statements from the children, the boy was often compelled to stand facing a wall for 10 to 12 hours daily as a form of punishment. During these periods, he was reportedly deprived of privileges such as watching television or playing video games. Additionally, the children claimed that the parents instructed them to physically discipline their brother if he spoke or moved during these punitive sessions.
The boy’s siblings corroborated his account, stating that he was exclusively fed canned vegetables such as beans, tomatoes, and soup, while they were provided with regular meals, including cheeseburgers and fast food. This disparity in nutrition further highlighted the neglectful conditions the child endured.
The local police department, in collaboration with the Indiana Department of Child Services, initiated a thorough investigation into the allegations. Both parents have been preliminarily charged with neglect of a dependent, with the mother facing three counts and the father two. Following their arrests, both individuals were released on bond—$15,000 for the woman and $10,000 for her partner—pending further legal proceedings.
The case has drawn significant attention, highlighting concerns about child welfare and the responsibilities of parents and guardians. As the investigation continues, authorities are working to ensure the safety and well-being of all children involved.
