City of Waco shares update on I-35 South improvement project

Waco, TX – The Texas Department of Transportation has officially launched a significant infrastructure project aimed at improving Interstate 35 South through Waco.

The project is expected to benefit regional traffic flow and safety for years to come.

Crews have begun construction work along the frontage road from Highway 6 to New Road.

As part of the planned improvements, TxDOT announced that by mid-2025, all northbound I-35 traffic will be temporarily shifted to the southbound lanes.

Two lanes will remain open in each direction during the lane shift to minimize disruptions for drivers.

Motorists are urged to use caution while traveling through the construction zone. Drivers should obey all posted traffic signs and remain alert to changing conditions.

The City of Waco and TxDOT appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation throughout the project.

For more information on traffic updates and future project phases, residents can visit the TxDOT website or follow the City of Waco’s official social media channels.
