Texas – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is alerting drivers that they may encounter delays when obtaining an emissions inspection for vehicles registered in emissions counties. This is due to intermittent connectivity issues affecting the vehicle inspection system.
According to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the company contracted to operate the Texas Information Management System (TIMS), which facilitates the vehicle inspection testing system, reported that its corporate office was damaged by severe weather earlier this week.
This office houses one of the company’s data centers, which is currently inaccessible. As a result, the company has activated its disaster recovery plan and the network is now running on secondary backup servers.
However, some vehicle inspection stations may still experience outages or intermittent connectivity issues, leading to delays for drivers attempting to obtain a vehicle inspection.
DPS is working closely with TCEQ and vehicle inspection station owners to address the issue. While there is no clear timeline on when the damaged data center will be accessible, the department is actively monitoring the situation.
Drivers are encouraged to stay updated by following DPS’ social media channels for any further developments regarding the issue.
