Explosion at North Fort Worth Power Substation Causes Massive Fire, Prompts Evacuations

Waco, TX – A dramatic explosion at a power substation in North Fort Worth sparked a large fire Wednesday evening, leading to a temporary evacuation of nearby homes and significant emergency response. The incident occurred around 7:15 p.m. near Seventeen Lakes Boulevard and Henrietta Creek Road.

Fort Worth Fire Department officials reported that they were in a “holding position” by 10:00 p.m., assessing whether to allow the fire to continue burning or take action to suppress it. Despite the intensity of the flames, there were no mandatory evacuations, though about 20 homes were advised to evacuate voluntarily as a precautionary measure.

Firefighters worked alongside Oncor crews to safely disconnect the equipment from the substation, allowing first responders to begin extinguishing the blaze. Oncor reported that most customers were rerouted, leaving fewer than 50 homes without power due to the explosion.

Fort Worth Fire Department spokesman Craig Trojacek assured the public that there was no immediate indication of foul play. “This is a very active scene with multiple first responders on site,” Trojacek said, urging residents to avoid the area and leave space for emergency vehicles.

The fire remains under investigation, and local authorities are working to determine the cause of the explosion. While crews have managed to contain the situation to some extent, the scene is still active, and further updates are expected as more information becomes available.

As of now, no injuries have been reported, and the fire has not spread beyond the immediate vicinity of the substation. Local residents are advised to stay clear of the area while emergency crews continue their work.
