New York – According to T. Grroth, a man from New York, what was intended to be a routine clrcumcision for his baby CoIe at local Children’s Hospital turned into a life-threatening ordeal. Born on March 31 with a congenitaI heart condition, the baby had been recovering well and was scheduled for discharge on April 16. However, complications from the procedure led to severe bIeeding, seizures, and multiple organ damage, leaving the infant in criticaI condition.
The child’s parent described the aftermath as a parent’s worst nightmare, stating that within hours of the circumcision, the bewborn nearly bIed to death. The bIeeding was reportedly discovered by a nurse around 2:30 a.m. on April 15, but blood work wasn’t ordered until after 5 a.m., and the attending physician was not notified until 8:30 a.m. The child’s parent expressed frustration over the delayed response, believing that the hospital failed to act with the urgency required.
Over the following days, the baby underwent multiple surgeries, including one to remove necrotic sections of his lntestines, and required daily bIood transfusions. He remains on a respirator, receives nutrition intravenously, and has a coIostomy bag. Despite minor improvements, such as a recent period without transfusions, his parents are preparing for a prolonged recovery and potential long-term complications.
The boy, who remains in critical condition, was put on a respirator, given pain medications, along with requiring a coIostomy bag to go to the bathroom. The afflicted boy is also now receiving all his nutrition intravenously, the baby’s dad said.
The boy’s father said hospital staff did not take the necessary steps to stop the bIeeding or assess the extent of his son’s bIood loss. He added that a routine clrcumcision should not lead to a baby nearly dying from bIood loss if proper procedures had been followed.
The New York hospital has expressed empathy but has not admitted fault, citing patient privacy policies. The baby’s family, with a background in the medical field, believe that the standard of care was not met and are considering legal action. They have initiated a GoFundMe campaign, raising more than $65,000 to support their child’s medical expenses.
This incident underscores the importance of thorough communication between medical professionals and families regarding potential risks associated with procedures, even those considered routine. As the child continues his fight for recovery, his family’s experience serves as a poignant reminder of the need for vigilance and accountability in medical care.
