According to the court documents, the 32-year-old defendant, later identified as Bryn, only received 2 years pr0bation and 100 hours of communlty service after she used several knives to stab her 26-year-old boyfriend, Chad, more than 100 times in 2018. Per reports, the 32-year-old woman then stabbed her dog and attempted to kill herself, but was interrupted by the responding officers.
Prosecutors said the defendant pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter, but was found guilty. Bryn faced up to 4 years in prison, but only received 2 years pr0bation. Her defence attorney argued that his client was in a marijuana-induced state of accute psychosls. According to L&C, District Attorney Audry prosecuted the case and complained about the sentence.
During the trial, a forensic psychologist submitted a report that found the defendant was acutely psychotic. According to the court documents, after she stabbed Chad more than hundred times, the 32-year-old woman reportedly started cutting her neck. The forensic psychologist also said that the woman appeared possessed in police body-worn camera footage from the night she killed Chad.
The state-appointed forensic psychologist also claimed that the high potency of the marijuana Bryn smoked was responsible for her dissociative state. During the sentencing, the 32-year-old woman reportedly said that ‘if she knew the dangers of marijuana, she would ever have smoked it that night or at all.’ The victim’s father, Sean, reportedly said: “So I don’t understand why a person can all of a sudden smoke marijuana and not be held accountable for their actions. That doesn’t make sense and legally doesn’t make sense. She should have been sentenced to prison time, but she wasn’t.”
