Governor Abbott announces Vinton Steel’s $229 million investment and creation of over 180 new jobs under Texas JETI program

Texas – Governor Greg Abbott announced that the City of Canyon has been designated as a Film Friendly Texas Certified Community by the Texas Film Commission after completing the multi-step training and certification process.

Governor Abbott congratulated Canyon for joining over 175 other Texas communities with this designation, highlighting the program’s role in matching local businesses with production needs, creating jobs for Texas-based crew members and local residents, and boosting on-site spending at local businesses. He praised the Texas Film Commission for supporting local job creation through media production.

Representative John Smithee expressed his excitement for Canyon, emphasizing the potential for community initiatives and local business support. Mayor Gary Hinders shared the city’s enthusiasm about partnering with the Amarillo Area Film Commission to attract more commercial film projects to the region, citing the growing popularity of the Panhandle’s classic western scenery.

Canyon now joins more than 175 Film Friendly Texas Certified Communities statewide, benefiting from ongoing training and guidance from the Texas Film Commission on media industry standards, best practices, and accommodating on-location filming activities.
