Texas – Governor Greg Abbott has announced that Texas will begin the process of closing the Operation Lone Star jail booking facility in Jim Hogg County, citing the success of President Donald Trump’s leadership in addressing the border crisis, which has led to historically low illegal immigration rates.
“Thanks to President Trump, illegal border crossings are at all-time record lows and, unlike under President Joe Biden, the Trump Administration is quickly deporting illegal immigrants from our country,” Governor Abbott said.
“As a result, there is no longer a need for Texas to maintain the jail booking facility in Jim Hogg County. Texas will continue to assist the Trump Administration in arresting, detaining, and deporting illegal immigrants.”
The state has already begun phasing out operations at the jail booking facility and plans to close it by April. The Texas government has offered the facility’s use to the Trump Administration as part of its continued support for robust border security operations.
In 2022, Governor Abbott announced the establishment of the Operation Lone Star jail booking facility to house individuals arrested for border-related crimes in the region. With the decline in illegal crossings, the facility’s operations are no longer deemed necessary.
