Texas – Governor Greg Abbott has issued a disaster declaration for 191 Texas counties in response to growing wildfire threats across the state. The order directs the Texas Division of Emergency Management to activate state emergency resources to assist local officials.
Abbott emphasized that protecting the safety and well-being of Texans is the top priority and urged residents to stay informed about wildfire conditions and follow the guidance of emergency personnel.
According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, warm temperatures, dry vegetation, and stronger winds are creating hazardous fire conditions in multiple regions.
The agency has raised the Wildland Fire Preparedness Level to Level 2, signaling elevated fire danger in parts of the state. Officials are encouraging Texans to take prevention measures such as avoiding spark-causing activities, making emergency plans, and keeping supplies ready.
State resources now in place include more than 100 firefighters and support personnel, fire engines, bulldozers, motor graders, and federally contracted firefighting aircraft for retardant drops and aerial surveillance. The Texas National Guard has also deployed Chinook and Blackhawk helicopters equipped for firefighting operations.
