Texas – Governor Greg Abbott has commended the Texas Legislature for passing Senate Bill 7 and House Joint Resolution 7, describing the legislation as a “Texas-size” investment in the state’s water infrastructure.
“With the dramatic population growth that Texas continues to experience, our water supplies are drying up, impacting Texans and communities across our great state,” Governor Abbott said.
He emphasized the critical need to repair broken and leaking pipes and to support agriculture producers in the Rio Grande Valley and West Texas with adequate water supplies.
Abbott credited Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Speaker Burrows, Senator Charles Perry, and Representative Cody Harris for their leadership in advancing the bills. “Texas will make a generational investment to our water infrastructure and tap into new water supplies,” he said.
The governor expressed his intention to swiftly sign Senate Bill 7 into law and encouraged Texans to approve the constitutional amendment on the November ballot, which would help secure water resources for the next 50 years.
Earlier this year, Abbott declared this investment an emergency item during his 2025 State of the State Address.
