Texas – Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) reminded residents impacted by severe storms and flooding in the Hill Country that the deadline to apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) is September 4, 2025.

“Texans who lost their jobs or had their work disrupted by the catastrophic Fourth of July floods should know that recovery resources remain available to them,” Governor Abbott said. “Disaster Unemployment Assistance provides a lifeline for families as they continue to recover and rebuild. Impacted Texans need to apply before the September 4 deadline so they can get the support they need and deserve.”

Under President Donald J. Trump’s Major Disaster Declaration, workers and self-employed individuals in Burnet, Kerr, Guadalupe, Kimble, McCulloch, Menard, San Saba, Tom Green, Travis, and Williamson counties may be eligible for DUA benefits if they were unable to work due to flood-related damage.

Eligible individuals can apply online through Unemployment Benefit Services or by calling TWC at (800) 939-6631. Applications must be submitted by September 4, 2025.

DUA is available to individuals who have used all regular unemployment benefits or do not qualify for them, were employed or self-employed in the disaster area, and are unable to work due to physical damage to their workplace, injury, or other disaster-related circumstances. Applicants must provide proof of employment within 21 days of filing to receive benefits. Documentation can be submitted through TWC’s online UI Submission Portal, by fax, or by mail.

TWC warned that failure to provide required documentation may result in halted payments and repayment obligations, though wage records and other available information may sometimes be used to verify employment.

The program aims to provide a financial lifeline to help affected Texans recover as they rebuild their lives and livelihoods following the floods.
