Texas – Governor Greg Abbott attended the Parent Empowerment Night at Athens Christian Preparatory Academy (ACPA) in Athens, emphasizing the broad support for school choice across Texas.
Governor Abbott stressed that school choice is popular across all political affiliations, races, and regions in Texas. He explained, “It doesn’t matter which political party you’re in; a majority of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents support school choice.
It’s popular among Hispanic Americans, African Americans, and white Americans across the state, in urban, suburban, and rural areas.” He highlighted the importance of responding to challenges by investing in school choice and education to shape a better future for Texas children.
The Governor reaffirmed his support for Education Savings Accounts, an initiative he declared an emergency item for the legislative session. He also discussed the success of Texas’ Parent-Directed Special Education Services program and his commitment to expanding it in the 89th Legislative Session. To improve education further, Governor Abbott outlined three key pillars: empowering parents, funding and training excellent teachers, and ensuring exceptional academics for all students.
The event featured speeches from Representative Keith Bell, Representative Cody Harris, Athens Mayor Aaron Smith, Texas Public Policy Foundation Campaign Director Mandy Drogin, and ACPA Head of School Brent Williams.
