Texas – Governor Greg Abbott, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), and the Texas National Guard remain focused on securing the Texas-Mexico border as part of Operation Lone Star. The multi-agency initiative aims to stop the smuggling of drugs, weapons, and people into Texas, while preventing transnational criminal activity between ports of entry.
Since the program’s launch, Operation Lone Star has resulted in over 531,100 illegal immigrant apprehensions and more than 50,600 criminal arrests, with over 43,400 felony charges. Texas law enforcement has also seized over 624 million lethal doses of fentanyl, highlighting the ongoing fight against the fentanyl crisis. This quantity of fentanyl is enough to kill every man, woman, and child in the United States, Mexico, and Canada combined.
The state’s border security efforts have led to a significant reduction in illegal crossings, which have decreased by over 85%. With fewer illegal crossings, Texas has been able to transport migrants to sanctuary cities as part of its transportation program. Since the start of this program:
– Over 12,500 migrants have been transported to Washington, D.C. since April 2022
– Over 45,900 migrants have been transported to New York City since August 2022
– Over 36,900 migrants have been transported to Chicago since August 2022
– Over 3,400 migrants have been transported to Philadelphia since November 2022
– Over 19,200 migrants have been transported to Denver since May 2023
– Over 1,500 migrants have been transported to Los Angeles since June 2023
