Texas – Governor Greg Abbott delivered remarks at the Texas Independent Producers & Royalty Owners Association (TIPRO) 80th Annual Convention, emphasizing the vital contributions of the oil and gas industry to Texas’ economy and energy independence.
During his speech, Abbott noted that Texas leads the nation in energy production, supplying nearly one-fourth of domestically produced energy. He praised the industry for supporting public services, including schools, roads, and border security, while providing a critical power source for the state’s electric grid.
“The world has recognized the critical role Texas, and Texas oil and gas, plays in global security,” Abbott said. “Quite simply, Texas would not be able to achieve what it does without the contributions of the oil and gas sector.”
Abbott was joined by Texas Railroad Commission Chairman Jim Wright, Representatives Briscoe Cain and Charles Cunningham, TIPRO Chairman Grant Johnson, and other state and local officials.
The Governor also highlighted actions taken during the 89th legislative session to combat oil theft, including increasing criminal penalties for petroleum product theft, launching a Theft Prevention Unit at the Texas Department of Public Safety, authorizing law enforcement to confiscate stolen products, and creating a program to inspect oil and gas tankers.
Abbott concluded by thanking the men and women working in the industry for their dedication to providing the energy that powers daily life across Texas.
