Governor Greg Abbott sent letter to Texas colleges and universities, prohibiting any tuition increases for the upcoming biennium

Gov. Abbott has reappointed Kris Coons to the Correctional Managed Health Care Committee for a term set to expire on February 1, 2027

Waco, TX – According to the state officials, the letter emphasizes the need for universities to ease the financial burden on students and their families, especially during times of inflation and economic pressure.

“Last year, I signed a law that prohibits increasing undergraduate tuition and fees for both the 2023-24 and 2024-25 academic years.

As this tuition freeze expires, let me be clear: I will not support any tuition increase at any public higher education institution in the upcoming biennium,” said Abbott.

He further stressed that access to affordable education is key to helping Texans achieve better wages, meet workforce qualifications, and enjoy a higher quality of life.

Abbott pledged to keep college affordability a top priority as the state heads into the next legislative session.
