Waco, TX – A fire that engulfed a home in Waco on Tuesday afternoon is believed to have been caused by a heat lamp used for the owners’ pets. The fire, which broke out while the occupants were inside, destroyed the residence but fortunately resulted in no injuries.
According to the Waco Fire Department, the blaze began around 3:30 p.m. at a single-story home in the 800 block of East Loop 340. Firefighters arrived on the scene within minutes to find the house fully engulfed in flames. The Robinson Fire Department and other local agencies quickly joined in the effort to suppress the fire and prevent its spread to nearby structures.
Despite the extensive damage to the home, all individuals inside at the time of the fire were able to evacuate safely. Authorities praised the quick thinking of the occupants, who were able to exit the house without injury.
The Waco Sheriff’s Department, which assisted in securing the area and supporting firefighting operations, expressed relief that no lives were lost in the incident. “We’re just thankful that everyone got out safely. It could have been much worse,” said Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Jenkins.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire started in a room where a heat lamp, typically used to keep pets warm, was in operation. While the exact cause is still under investigation, officials suspect the lamp may have malfunctioned, sparking the fire.
Fire officials are urging residents to take extra precautions when using heat lamps and other electrical devices, especially in areas with pets or small animals. “Heat lamps should always be placed in safe, non-flammable areas, and checked regularly to ensure they are functioning properly,” a spokesperson for the Waco Fire Department said.
The fire caused significant damage to the home, and investigators are working to determine the full extent of the destruction. Red Cross representatives were at the scene offering support to the displaced residents.
As of now, the fire is under control, and authorities are continuing their efforts to investigate the cause and ensure the area is safe.
