Houston, TX – A fatal crash early Saturday morning in west Houston has left one woman dead and a man seriously injured. The accident, which involved two motorcycles and a Chevrolet Malibu, occurred just before 3 a.m. on Fry Road, just north of I-10.
According to deputies, the two motorcycles were traveling northbound on Fry Road, side by side. One of the motorcycles, driven by Kade Sorrell with passenger Katelyn Sorrell, was in the right lane. At the same time, a Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 34-year-old Trymeshia Smith, was stopped in a southbound turn lane. Deputies said Smith made a left turn in front of the motorcycles, causing the collision.
While the rider of the motorcycle in the left lane was able to swerve and avoid the Malibu, Kade Sorrell’s motorcycle collided with the vehicle. Both Kade and Katelyn were thrown from the bike upon impact. Katelyn Sorrell was pronounced dead at the scene, while Kade Sorrell was rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
Smith was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated (DWI) following the crash. Deputies noted that the charges against her could be upgraded to intoxication manslaughter, depending on the outcome of the investigation.
Smith was later released after posting a $10,000 bond. The identities and ages of Kade and Katelyn Sorrell have not been released by authorities.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
