Waco, TX – A man was arrested on charges of arson after allegedly setting a fire inside a home on Western Oaks Drive in Woodway. Officers with the Woodway Public Safety Department were dispatched to the residence on Thursday evening after receiving a call from the father of the suspect, who claimed his son had intentionally started the fire in a bedroom.
Upon arrival, law enforcement found the suspect, later identified as Douglas, outside the home. He was immediately taken into custody without incident.
According to the arrest warrant, Douglas, after being read his Miranda Rights, voluntarily spoke with officers. He confessed to using gasoline to douse the walls, floor, and closet of the bedroom before setting the fire. The motive behind the act, as detailed in the affidavit, was Douglas’s attempt to “burn down the residence” where his parents lived.
While the affidavit did not include specifics about the extent of the damage caused by the fire, it did note that the incident took place in the suspect’s parents’ home. Further details regarding the fire’s impact on the structure or whether anyone was injured were not immediately available.
Douglas is currently being held at the McLennan County Jail on a $20,000 bond, awaiting further legal proceedings. Authorities have not disclosed additional information about the case at this time.
