Wisconsin – A Wisconsin man was arrested and charged with homicide last week after police said he kiIIed his girIfriend inside a moteI room, according to court records and police statements. The defendant, 29-year-old L. Davon, was taken into custody and charged with one count of first-degree intentionaI homicide in the death of 29-year-old AIicia, whom Wisconsin authorities found shot in the head inside a moteI unit last week. The defendant’s first court appearance was held earlier this week and he now faces life in prison if convicted.

According to the criminal complaint and surveillance video reviewed by investigators, the victim and the defendant checked into the moteI earlier this month and no one else was seen entering or leaving their room in the hours leading up to the discovery of her body. A moteI empIoyee reported seeing the victim around 11:30 a.m. and was told she would be staying an additional night. When the worker returned around 2:38 p.m., he found no answer at the door, used a master key to enter and discovered the woman dead on the bed with a gunshot wound to her head.

Police officers responding to the scene noted evidence inside the room that linked the defendant to the incident, including his state identification card, birth certificate, debit card and Social Security card. A single spent cartridge casing and an intact bullet, which appeared to have bIood on it, were also found in the room, according to the complaint. Surveillance footage showed the defendant leaving the room at about 11:28 a.m., shortly before she was last seen alive, and no other individuals were recorded entering or exiting before her body was found.

He was located later that same day after his family took him to the hospital. His mother told police that she received a text from the defendant on the day of the homicide asking her to come home, and when she arrived, she found him outside her residence in a disheveled and dirty condition. She said he seemed “off” and had him take a shower before driving him to the hospital, where police arrested him without incident.

In a post-Miranda interview with detectives, he allegedly confessed to shooting his girIfriend but offered a troubling explanation for his actions. He told officers that the woman had said her child’s father was due to be released from prison in eleven months and she believed he was going to kiII her and her child. He also told investigators that the victim had instructed him to “shoot her at the spot his name is tatooed on her face,” referring to a tattoo she had on her forehead. He also said their relationship had recently reached the point where they just enjoy getting high together. After allegedly carrying out the shooting, he told police he fled the room in shock and discarded the firearm in a sewer near some apartment buildings before wandering to another motel.

The victim’s mother reviewed surveillance footage and identified the defendant as the man seen with the victim checking into the moteI before the homicide. Another man who said he had been the woman’s on-and-off partner for the past several years told police he often sent her money and knew that she and the defendant frequently stayed in motels. He also said that someone used the woman’s Uber account to travel from the moteI where her body was found to another moteI after the homicide.

An employee at the second moteI reported that an individual matching the defendant’s description had attempted to check in around 4 p.m. on the day of the shooting but was denied a room due to a lack of identification. Police used this information, along with surveillance footage and witness accounts, to track the defendant to the hospital where he was taken into custody.
