North Carolina – A North Carolina man was sentenced to twenty five to thirty one years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder, murder of an unborn chiId, and robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the death of his girIfriend, 33-year-old J. WiIkes.
The tragic incident occurred in Nov. last year, when North Carolina authorities responded to a shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound; she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators quickly identified the defendant, 32-year-old D. Madox, as the suspect. He was arrested the following day and initially charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. Later, after confirming that the victim was with a child at the time of her death, a charge of murder of an unborn chiId was added to the case.
The investigation revealed that the victim had informed the defendant of her pregnancy and encouraged him to disclose their affair to his spouse. According to prosecutors, the defendant later admitted to his wife that he had killed the woman.
The defendant’s spouse reportedly told detectives that earlier that day, he had sent her a message saying he had been unfaithful and had gotten another woman pregnant, referring to the victim.
According to local ABC affiliate WSOC, the victim did not know the defendant was married. He reportedly wanted her to have an abortion.
On the day of the shooting, the defendant reportedly came to the victim’s door and asked her to step outside before he shot her. The defendant reportedly admitted to his spouse that he shot the victim, took her cellphone, and destroyed it by driving over it, according to a criminal complaint.
The victim’s family member told WSOC that she was a mother to a nonverbal daughter with autism, who was inside the home at the time of the shooting. Her daughter does not understand why her mother went outside and never returned, the victim’s mother said.
