Oklahoma – An Oklahoma man was taken into custody earlier this week after prosecutors charged him with first-degree murder by chiId abuse in the death of his baby. According to Oklahoma authorities, officers took the defendant into custody without incident, one day after they responded to an emergency call and the District Attorney’s Office filed the murder charge. Authorities emphasized the charge stems from injuries doctors described as traumatic.
Officers first went to the family’s apartment for a reported domestic incident. When they arrived, they found the infant in cardiac arrest and immediately sought medical care. The 1-month-old baby was transported to a hospital, where physicians documented multiple serious injuries. Police and hospital staff listed several fractures and a deformed skuII. Medical personnel told investigators the injuries appeared to come from blunt trauma.
Detectives began an investigation that included interviewing neighbors and witnesses and collecting video from a doorbell camera at the apartment. Police said the footage showed the infant’s mother and another individual leaving the residence, which conflicted with the defendant’s initial account about how the injuries occurred. Investigators said the same camera later showed the father leaving the apartment carrying an empty Iiquor bottle, then returning alone. Audio captured on the camera recorded the man speaking to the baby, followed by seven loud thuds. Detectives cited the sequence and the audio as key evidence developed early in the case.
During the initial response and subsequent interviews, the defendant told Oklahoma authorities he had been holding the baby when he was pushed down the stairs, which he claimed caused the injuries. Investigators said the doorbell video contradicted that explanation and indicated the injuries occurred inside the apartment when he was alone with the child. As part of the canvass, detectives also spoke with multiple neighbors to corroborate timelines and reviewed statements from all adults known to be inside the home before the infant was found unresponsive.
The infant remained under hospital care after first responders revived him at the scene, according to local reports, then died of the documented injuries. Following review of the investigative findings, the District Attorney’s Office filed a count of murder in the first degree by child abuse against the defendant earlier this week. Police announced the arrest the same day and noted the case remains an arrest and accusation, not a conviction, as the investigation continues and the case proceeds through court. The defendant was booked into the county jail and held without bond.
Police summarized the investigation as evidence-driven, with the medical findings, the doorbell camera audio documenting a sequence of loud impacts, and witness interviews forming the basis of probable cause. Oklahoma authorities have not publicly alleged involvement by the other adults identified in the apartment earlier in the evening and said the evidence reviewed so far focused on Williams’ conduct inside the residence. Detectives stated they would continue to evaluate additional witness information and any further electronic evidence that may be recovered.
Oklahoma authorities reiterated that anyone with additional information related to the events of August 11 should contact investigators. As of the latest public updates from police and local outlets, the criminal case centers on the charge that the defendant caused the fatal injuries to his son, with prosecutors moving forward on a first-degree murder by child abuse count based on the initial investigative record.
