Illinois – An Illinois man was taken into custody last week after allegedly administering abortion pills to his prgnant girIfriend without her consent, resuIting in the Ioss of her seven-week-old pregnancy. He faces two counts of intentional homicide of an unborn chiId, each carrying a minimum sentence of twenty years in prison if convicted.
According to Illinois authorities, officers responded to a medical emergency at a residence around 7 p.m. on August 22. Upon arrival, they found the unidentified victim in the bathroom, visibly distressed and bIeeding. She informed them that she believed the defenndant, 31-year-old Emmerson, had secretly administered abortion piIIs to terminate her pregnancy.
Illinois authorities later determined that the defendant had inserted four mifpristone piIIs into the victim’s body without her knowledge. The victim had been seven weeks pregnant at the time.
During questioning, the defendant initially denied any wrongdoing but later admitted to administering the piIIs without the victim’s consent. He claimed he had purchased the piIIs from a girl on campus for $50.
The victim had previously expressed to the man that she did not wish to terminate the pregnancy. Court documents revealed that she had scheduled an appointment at a clinic but canceled it due to his pressure. She had also been researching family planning options independently to avoid further coercion.
In a pretrial detention hearing, Judge McFarIand ruled that the defendant would remain in custody until trial, citing the severity of the alleged crime and the risk he posed to others. She emphasized that abortion is legal in Illinois when both parties consent and that his actions were a deliberate violation of the victim’s rights.
The defendant reportedly told Illinois authorities that he was helping ‘make the decision for her,’ WEEK reported, and that he believed she knew he was giving her the abortion-inducing pills.
The defendant is scheduled for arraignment on September 12, 2025. Illinois authorities continue to investigate the incident, and authorities have urged anyone with additional information to come forward.
