Tennessee – A 33-year-old man from Tennessee, later identified as Donavan, was ordered to serve 2 years behind bars and 8 years in community corrections after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including: reckless homicide, tampering with evidence and false reporting in connection with his spouse’s, 29-year-old ApriI, death two years ago.
The investigation process began in July 2023 after the 911 caller told the dispatcher about an unresponsive female at the location. The responding officers found the victim unresponsive in the bathroom with a plastic bag taped around her neck. The woman was rushed to the hospital where doctors pronounced her dead.
Initially, the woman’s death was classified as a suicide due to complications of suffocation, but it was later changed to homicide by strangulation after the victim’s mother, Jami, helped Tennessee authorities find the one who did it.
During the investigation process, authorities discovered that the woman reportedly requested a divorce from her husband several weeks before she was murdered. The medical examiner told investigators that the victim also had bruises on her body.
One year after the woman was found dead, the 33-year-old man reportedly called his wife’s mom on video call and confessed the murder to her. The woman recorded the call, in which the defendant reportedly said that ‘he accidentally killed his wife during a se* act.’
The. man reportedly told the victim’s mom that he accidentally killed her and didn’t know what to do. The 33-year-old man was taken into custody in Texas and later extradited to Tennessee. During an interview with investigators, the defendant reportedly admitted to the crime. During Tuesday’s sentencing, officials said the victim’s family was in agreement with the sentence.
