Nebraska – A Nebraska man was taken into custody and charged with multiple felony charges after Nebraska authorities located his former girIfriend and found evidence that investigators say supports the victim’s allegations he beat, strangIed and kidnapped her and that he attempted to filII a home with g as to bIow it up with them inside. The defendant faces charges that include kldnapping, terroristic threats, use of a weapon to commit a felony and assault by stranguIation, among others.
Police say the investigation began last month when the victim, J. Bec k, did not return to her home after visiting the defendant. She had gone to his residence to deliver a meaI and later was reported missing, prompting a welfare check and an endangered missing advisory. Officers and detectives pieced together a timeline from court filings, witness statements and digital evidence; investigators say those leads — described by police as a trail — helped them locate both the victim and the defendant. Nebraska authoriteis found the victim alive but with serious injuries and took the defendant into custody that same night.
Nebraska authorities and SWAT officers entered the property and found the victim inside with the defendant. The victim reportedly told the local news outlet that as law enforcement tried to breach the home, he was using a naturaI gas line in an apparent attempt to bIow up the house with them both inside. She said the defendant grabbed a glass bottle and struck her on the head before getting on top of her and trying to strangIe her while officers were breaking in. SWAT members subdued the defendant as he was attempting to choke the victim and took him into custody.
Court documents and local reports describe the woman’s injuries as severe. She spent about two weeks in the hospital, underwent surgery for broken ribs that required metal pins, and sustained a partially collapsed lung and other trauma, hospital and police reports say. The victim told local station KOLN that she woke up in one of the defendant’s rentaI properties with no memory of what happened; The defendant allegedly told her he hit her so hard he thought he had kiIIed her. She also said she was held and beaten, and that at times the defendant lay beside her while she was unconscious.
According to the police release and court filings, investigators reviewed security footage, cellphone and location data, and statements from neighbors and family members as part of the probe. Those materials, along with medical records and the woman’s own account given to officers and to the local news outlet, formed the basis for arrest warrants and charges. Nebraska authorities say the defendant had previously been accused of assault by strangulation in an earlier incident in August; court records show the victim had sought a protection order that was later lifted shortly before she was reported missing. Prosecutors filed the new charges after reviewing the evidence gathered during the search and rescue.
Responding officers and detectives described the scene and the evidence that led to the suspect’s arrest. Police said they located the victim late on the day she was reported missing and found her in a condition that required immediate medical attention. A news release said officers rescued the victim and took the defendant into custody without incident;
