According to the police officials, the mom, later identified as 28-year-old Amber, was taken into custody and later charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury. Per reports, the young woman reportedly kept her toddler son in a home with no heat for weeks. While in the freezing home, the 3-year-old boy reportedly suffered severe fr0stbite and his foot turned black. Doctors told investigators that the child may still end up having to have his leg amputated just below the knee.
Last month, the 28-year-old mom brought her son to the hospital and told the medical staff that both were experiencing foot pain. During an interview with investigators, the mother reportedly said that she went to the hospital after she started to experience pain in her foot. When medical staff saw the boy’s foot, they discovered that one of his feet had turned black due to severe frostbite. According to the police officials, the child was went into surgery and doctors attempted to remove the damaged tissue from the boy’s foot.
After the surgery, the doctors told investigators that the child may still end up having to have his leg amputated just below the knee. When officers visited the mother’s home, they discovered that there was no heat and the pipes were frozen. The victim’s grandmother, who was also living with the boy and his mon, said that she did not know anything was wrong with the boy until she was helping him put his shoes on as they were preparing to go to the hospital. Temperatures were in the single digits in the days leading up to the hospital visit.
The boy’s mom reportedly admitted to knowing that something was wrong with her son’s foot for nearly a month. During an interview with investigators, the boy’s mom reportedly said that her son’s foot was discolored several weeks prior to going to the hospital but then became normal again. In a follow-up interview, the 28-year-old mom reportedly admitted to using drugs and said that she had given birth to twins last year, then beat one of them to death and buried the child herself. Police executed a search warrant on the home but found no indication of human remains.
