Florida – A Florida woman was arrested and charged with one count of wiIIful and premeditated murder and one count of crueIty toward a chiId by aggravated battery. These charges stem from the tragic death of her chiId, O’Ryan, which occurred earlier this year at the family’s home in Florida. Authorities initiated a thorough investigation following the incident, which ultimately led to the woman’s, 24-year-old Raimona, arrest.
According to Florida authorities, first responders were dispatched to the scene in May after receiving reports of a child who had reportedly drowned in a tub. Upon arrival, emergency personnel immediately began life-saving efforts and transported the 2-year-old to a local hospital in critical condition. Despite these efforts, the child succumbed to his injuries four days later.
During the investigation, Florida authorities discovered that the parent had struck the 2-year-old multiple times, causing him to suffer seizures. She then left him unattended in the bathtub, leading to his drowning. The Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that the child’s death was a result of foul play.
The mother’s initial account to responding officers was that she had prepared meals for her three children and that her 2-year-old child had made a mess, requiring a bath. She explained that she used the upper shower faucet to run water into the tub because the bottom faucet was not functioning properly. The woman also stated that she left her son alone in the tub for approximately 1 to 2 minutes while she attended to one of her other children. However, further investigation revealed inconsistencies in her story, including discrepancies regarding the duration of time she left the child unattended.
In the days following the incident, the parent participated in a recorded walk-through of the event, demonstrating how she filled the tub and left her son unattended. During this reenactment, she claimed to have found her son floating in the tub with his feet toward the faucet and his face out of the water. Investigators found this account to be inconsistent with the physical evidence and the child’s injuries.
An autopsy determined the child had suffered severe trauma to the head and neck, which likely caused seizures and led to complications from being submerged in water, according to police. When questioned about the injuries sustained before the drowning, the parent reportedly admitted to striking her child in the head at least three times out of anger due to his behavior and the mess he made in the home, police said.
Florida authorities also stated that the parent had asked the child’s father to watch him around the time of the incident so she could ceIebrate her birthday, but he refused. Police said this supported claims from the child’s grandmother that the injuries may have occurred because the woman was upset with the child’s father.
The mother’s arrest was the result of a months-long investigation that included consultations with the State Attorney’s Office and a review of medical examiner findings. She was denied bond during her first court appearance last week. She is currently being held at the county detention center.
The case has drawn significant attention due to the nature of the crime and the involvement of a parent in the death of her child. The Tallahassee community continues to grapple with the implications of this tragedy.
