Texas – New details emerged last week after a Texas woman, O. RomeIus spoke publicly from jaiI, offering her account of the fataI assauIt that left two chiIdren dead and two others injured. In jailhouse interviews with local news outlet KPRC, the parent claimed the oldest child involved, 13-year-old Okarreo, pulled out a firearm while she was driving with him and his three siblings. She told the station the firearm was pointed at her from the back seat, and she said she feared for her life as well as the lives of the other chiIdren in the vehicIe.
In Oct. deputies responded to a call and found the parent and the four chiIdren inside a vehicIe. Two of the children were dead at the scene and two others were taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds; officials later identified the deceased as 13-year-old Okarreo and 3-year-old Amoura. The woman was arrested at the scene and charged with two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators say the mother called 911 and asked Texas authorities to meet her at a gas station, where deputies found the children in the vehicle. Court documents and search warrants later obtained by local news outlets show investigators interviewed the mother at the jail and collected evidence from both the car and her home as part of a broader criminal and welfare investigation. Those documents and statements from law enforcement describe the early steps of the inquiry: securing the scene, treating and transporting injured children, seizing the vehicle, executing search warrants and gathering physical evidence and witness statements.
According to investigators, the woman at times made statements that were difficult to interpret and inconsistent, and referenced fears that her children were “with the devil” and other troubling phrases recorded in probable cause documents. Detectives documented portions of the interview in which she reportedly said things about protecting herself and her children, and in other portions made statements that investigators described as rambling or not making sense. Those notes are being used by prosecutors as part of the charging package.
The parent reportedly told Texas authorities that the oldest child pulled out a firearm and aimed it at her while she was driving with him and his siblings. She claimed the child was acting aggressively and said she feared for her life. She also said she believed the child had a history of psychotic episodes and threatening behavior. She claimed the child was acting aggressively, said he was growling at her, and stated she feared for her life. She insisted she was not a monster and denied being mentally unstable. She also said she gathered her children and began driving because she believed an ex was stalking her and that she was in danger.
According to court documents, Romelus later told investigators she could not explain why she killed her children and said she did not remember some of the statements attributed to her during police interviews. Investigators also documented statements in which she suggested she believed the children were with the devil and indicated she acted before they could harm her.
