According to the court documents, the 52-year-old father, John, and the 52-year-old mother, Catherine, were both sentenced to years in prison after they were found guilty of multiple charges, including: murder, endangering children and felonious assault. Prosecutors said the father was sentenced to 29 years in prison and the mother was sentenced to 31 years in prison for killing their 8-year-old son Adam, who was adopted.
The medical examiner told investigators that the child’s death was a homicide and the cause of death was a blunt impact injury of the head. The parents even filed lawsuit against the coroner’s report and wanted to change the cause of death, claiming it was not a homicide. Three separate experts independently concluded that the manner of death is not homicide, the parents argued.
Prosecutors said the parents also physically abused their other children (adopted and biological). The parents also malnourishing the children and punished them with cold baths or showers. The parents reportedly adopted numerous seriously disabled and special-needs children, including Adam, who arrived in the United States in February 2016.
Per repots, the 8-year-old adopted boy reportedly suffered his fatal injuries after the 52-year-old mother got angry that he s0iled himself and slammed his head into the floor. Prosecutors allege that Adam’s father was aware of his son’s life-threatening injuries and refused to seek medical assistance. The parents were also accused of starving the boy before the 52-year-old woman killed him.
