Nevada – A Nevada woman, 28-year-old TayIour, was arrested last week and charged with attempted murder and chiId abuse, negIect, or endangerment after allegedly Ieaving her newborn baby in a dump ster. The chiID was discovered by a concerned citizen who heard the child crying. The individual promptly contacted 911 and rescued the baby, who was later confirmed to be in good health after being transported to the Regional Medical Center in Nevada.
The Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation into the incident, leading to the defendant’s arrest on July 7. Court documents revealed tha the woman gave birth to the baby between 2 and 3 a.m.. Surveillance footage captured a woman placing a garbage bag into the dumpster at 3:33 a.m., which authorities believe was her. Detective CIaire testified that the mother claimed she was in a state of panic and shock, unaware of the baby’s condition, and believed leaving the infant in the dumpster was her best option.
The parent also told Nevada authorities that she did not know she was pregnant until she gave birth to the boy in a bathroom, using a towel to retrieve the baby from the toilet. The woman allegedly said she had no desire to have any more children.
During the court hearing, it was disclosed that the woman had two other children and was experiencing financial hardship. She reportedly stated that her family was living paycheck to paycheck and could not support an additional child. Additionally, a previous incident from two years ago was mentioned, where the parent allegedly disposed of a fetus in a garbage can following a miscarriage; however, no charges were filed in that case.
Sheriff Darian commended the citizen’s quick actions, stating, “This child is alive today because of the swift and selfless actions of a community member who didn’t hesitate to help.” He also reminded the public of Nevada’s Safe Haven Law, which allows parents to legally surrender infants up to 30 days old at designated locations such as hospitals, fire stations, or law enforcement agencies without facing legal consequences if the child is unharmed.
As of now, the defendant remains in custody, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities continue to encourage anyone with information related to the case to contact the Sheriff’s Office Detective Division.
