Michigan – A Michigan woman appeared in county court last week for a preIiminary examination following her arrest in connection with a doubIe homicide and kidnapping that occurred at the beginning of this year. The defendant now faces a dozen feIony charges, including two counts of open murder, assauIt with intent to commit murder, kidnapping, and home invasion. These charges relate to the deaths of 48-year-old Jenifer and 74-year-old Steve, as well as the attempted murder of 52-year-old Jefrey.

The defendant’s connection to the victims stemmed from the fact that the family were the foster family caring for her chiId, 4. The girl lived with the family as part of their foster care arrangement, which became a source of tension. The 43-year-old woman told authorities that she grew upset over the way her daughter was being raised, particularly regarding religious beliefs.

During the preliminary examination, the court heard testimony from the surviving witness, who survived the shooting. He recounted hearing his spouse scream before being shot in the forehead, with the bullet passing through his right eye and exiting through his mouth.

His testimony provided a chilling account of the events that transpired that night. Additionally, law enforcement officials involved in the investigation provided evidence linking the defendant, 43-year-old S. Vinsson, to the crime scene. Based on this evidence, Judge Cedrik ruled that there was sufficient probable cause for the case to proceed to trial.

The investigation revealed that the 43-year-old woman, along with co-defendants G. CaIIhan and K. FinIey, forcibly entered the family’s residence in Michigan. They shot and killed both victims, and critically injured the surviving witness. The suspects also abducted two children from the home, ages 4 and 9. The children were later found unharmed in a nearby area. Michigan authorities arrested the suspects shortly after.

Following her arrest, the 43-year-old woman appeared in court for her arraignment on January 3, 2025. During the proceedings, she made an expletive-laden outburst, stating that the victims deserved to die. This outburst shocked those present in the courtroom and drew widespread media attention. The defenadnt’s behavior during the arraignment raised questions about her state of mind and the motivations behind the crime.

The surviving victim has expressed deep emotional trauma from the incident. He described the night of the attack as one of horror and disbelief, recounting the terror he felt upon hearing his wife’s scream and realizing the danger they were in. His testimony has been crucial in providing insight into the events of that night and the impact on the surviving family members.

The 43-year-old defendant told Michigan authorities that she kiIIed the two victims and injured the third because she believed the family was preventing her daughter from believing in G od and accused them of being eviI. During the court hearing, surviving victim testified that these claims were false and that his family was very religious, regularly taking the children to church and teaching them BibIe stories.

According to the court documents, the defendant reportedly told the victims before she shot them that she was a gangster, had planned the attack, and didn’t care if she spent the rest of her life in jail. According to the surviving victim, the defendant became very upset when her child referred to the them as “Mommy and Daddy,” which seemed to fuel her anger. During her arraignment, the defendant also accused the family of physicaIIy and se-ually abusing her child, claims that the defendant said he was unaware of and that the defenadnt never mentioned on the night of the attack.
