Police officials said the mother, later identified as 27-year-old Jasmine, was arrested and later charged with aggravated child abuse after she reportedly poured hot liquid on her baby’s face. Per reports, the 10-month-old baby reportedly suffered severe burns and was treated at the local hospital.
On Tuesday, doctors called the authorities after the 27-year-old mom brought her son to the hospital with severe burns. The doctors reportedly told authorities that the child suffered burns that looked to have been caused by someone pouring hot liquid over the baby’s face. Prosecutors also claim that the mother also failed to immediately seek medical attention after her baby was severely burned on the face and throat.
The doctors also told investigators that the 10-month-old baby suffered severe burns around his face, throat, and mouth areas. The baby also appeared emaciated and malnourished. Prosecutors have not released a possible motive why the 27-year-old mother reportedly burned her baby. No other information is available at the moment.
This incident remains under investigation. District Attorney Keith released the following statement: “Children are, you know, the ones that need the most protection. And certainly babies, a 10-month-old is in need of protection. And so when a child is abused and especially, you know, when a baby is abused, we take this very seriously.”
