Texas – A Texas woman was charged with injury to a disabled person with intent and is currently being held at the county jail with bond set at $300,000 after she brought her disabled daughter to the hospital for treatment of a prolonged cough. Medical staff discovered the daughter in a severely neglected state, weighing only 55 lbs and covered in f-ces and bedsores. She was diagnosed with pneumonia, malnutrition, and dehydration.
Hospital personnel reported that the daughter’s clothing was soiIed with dirt, dried animal and human f-ces, urlne, and bIood. Her gums were rotting, and dried f-ces were found in her hair, ears, and under her fingernails and toenails. Medical professionals likened her condition to that of a “c0ncentration camp survivor.”
The 48-year-old mother, later identified as 48-year-old FeIisa, informed the Texas authorities that her 32-year-old disabled daughter had not bathed in over five years, relying solely on wipes for cleaning. She also stated that her daughter had not eaten in the two days prior to the hospital visit and had not seen a doctor since 2018.
Following these revelations, the Sheriff’s Office obtained a search warrant for the woman’s residence. The search uncovered additional evidence leading to her arrest. Authorities also discovered three dozen dogs on the property, which were subsequently removed with assistance from the County’s Animal Control Division.
The mother, who was unemployed and served as the primary caregiver for her daughter and a disabled adult son, has been charged with injury to a disabled person with intent, a first-degree felony.
Doctors indicated that without medical intervention, the daughter would have died. The case has drawn attention to the critical need for oversight and support in situations involving caregivers for vulnerable individuals.
